December 20,
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11 (KJV)
These verses tell of Wise Men who traveled a great distance to find Jesus. They acknowledged Him as King, worshipped Him, and gave Him gifts.
We like to give gifts to our loved ones during Christmas and on their birthdays. We will drive many miles, and spend hours looking for just the right gift to show them just how much they mean to us.
Are we willing to drive miles and miles, and spend hours and hours to show Jesus how much He means to us? The Wise Men were. That is probably why the Bible calls them wise. May we be wise enough to make Him the number one priority in our lives.
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord and King, let us give Him the gifts that He most desires, our love and devotion.
Prayer: Dear God, strengthen me with the desire to grow in my walk with Christ that I might be filled with the wisdom that can only come from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
