And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 because he has looked with favor on the humble condition of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and his name is holy. Luke 1:46–49 (CSB)
Remember when you were younger, and you had a crazy fascination with Christmas? There were always so many lights, and hymns, and presents; nothing but happiness and
excitement existed. When I was little, I loved just sitting and
staring at the tree. It was bright and had so much detail it kept me so occupied.
One night as I was watching the peacefulness and calm of the tree, I fell asleep on the couch. I don’t remember the next part, but my parents say they started getting worried because I
wasn’t in my bed and they couldn’t find me. Supposedly, they were yelling and calling out my name, earnestly seeking to find me to make sure I was safe. They were waiting for their child to come to their arms, because they were calling for her.
Eventually they found me on the coach fast asleep, and all was well; they could rest knowing their child was safe and secure.
We don’t have to search hard for God. He isn’t hiding in a
distant area, He is right in front of us, calling us by name
earnestly hoping that His children would hear His voice and come home. All we have to do is open our eyes and wake up from the dream we are having. God doesn’t call us to live in a fantasy land, He calls us to live a life that brings Him glory and honor. It’s not always going to be peaceful or beautiful, but it will always be exciting and precious. What an honor it is to serve the one and only true King of all Creation. Jesus is worthy of our worship. And that is something to get excited about.
Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for the wonderful gift of your Son. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to worship and serve Him. We pray that during this holiday season we will remember what we are to be excited about. Not lights or Christmas trees, but You, Your Son, and The Holy Spirit.
