“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”
–John 1:14 (NKJV)
The magnitude of that statement boggles my mind.
The Creator of man became a man. The infinite God determined to take on the limitations of a human body. The omnipotent power of the universe became a helpless little baby. The glorious King of all creation took on the poverty of a carpenter’s son and was laid in a manger.
When I take a moment to pause and consider that truth, I’m left wondering, “Why”?
The answer is found in the second part of that verse.
“… and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 (NKJV)
Perhaps the only way we could behold His glory was for Him to leave the glory of Heaven. After all, only an infinite God would be willing to become confined. Only an omnipotent God is able to become a helpless babe. Only a glorious King would be willing to become poor. And only a Creator would become man so He could die for man’s sins.
Take time today to examine the baby of Bethlehem’s manger. And behold His glory.
Prayer: Dear God, I’m in awe of a God who is so big that He is willing to become small that I may behold His glory. Help me “behold” You in the little things of life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
