‘ He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Christ.”’ John 1:20 (NIV)
Many great teachers have taught. Through their teachings we have learned important lessons about life. We have learned from the great teachers truths to apply to our lives. We have learned from the thinkers, philosophies and thought processes as to how we can improve the quality of life here on this earth.
Many prophets have preached. We have learned from them important lessons about God. We have learned from the great prophets the truths of God and how we can apply them to our lives. We have learned from the prophets the processes by which we can grow in our understanding of God and improve the quality of our life with Him.
Many leaders have led. We have learned from their example important lessons about how we can change lives. We have learned from the great leaders truths about how our lives affect the lives of others. We have learned from the leaders that have gone before how we impact our world and improve the quality of the lives of people whom we meet in this world.
But, you know what?
None of the great teachers who have taught, none of the prophets who have preached, none of the many great leaders who have led, have ever claimed to be the Christ except one. Buddha? Un-uhh! Mohammed? Nope! Confucius? I say not! Not Moses, Joshua, Isaiah, Jeremiah, not even John the Baptist, whom Jesus called the greatest of the prophets.
Only one has ever claimed to be the Christ. Because only one IS the Christ. That’s why we celebrate His birth. His name? Jesus!
