In 1914 at the Height of World War I, something miraculous occurred. All along the Western Front, British and German soldiers lay down their weapons. The battlefield became neutral territory. The men came to one another and exchanged gifts of whatever they had. The peace continued for two more days. And the soldiers returned to their battle only after being ordered to do so. What was the reason for this unofficial cease fire? Christmas Eve.
The Bible tells us, “He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)”
Only the birth of the Prince of Peace could have inspired the miracle on that battlefield in 1914. Jesus has come to bring Peace to the world.
Just as Jesus inspired Peace in the battlefield, He also brings us peace individually from the bondage to sin. Within all of us, a battle seems to be waging between our fleshly nature and the Spirit of God. But Scripture has these words of encouragement, Romans 6:14, “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. (KJV)” The child of God has been set free from the power of sin. No longer do we need to be in bondage to sin’s power, for we have been set free.
Prayer: Dear God, we come before you today praising you for the Peace we have in Christ Jesus our Lord. We rejoice that we can depend on Him to help us overcome the struggle with sin. Father, use us for your Glory and fill us with your Peace. In Jesus Name. Amen.
