Advent Devotion – November 29

November 29, 2021

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.””  Gen 3:15 (NKJV)

Some things just don’t make sense.  It doesn’t make sense that young people say “Bad” when they mean something’s good.  It doesn’t make sense that athletes would use drugs.  It doesn’t make sense that some of the smartest men in the world believe that man evolved from apes.  It doesn’t make since that anyone would choose Duke over UK.  And it doesn’t make sense that God would talk about the seed of the woman.

Now I’m no Biology major, but I do know that man carries the seed and woman carries the egg.  People in biblical times knew this little tidbit of information too, so this isn’t just a statement that shows Moses’ lack of knowledge concerning the Birds and the Bees.  The scribes were diligent in their copying of the scriptures, so it isn’t a typo.  God did say it.  It just doesn’t make sense.  Or, at least, it didn’t used to make sense.

From the time the statement was made until approximately 6 B.C, it didn’t make sense.  Then a virgin got a visit from Gabriel in the middle of the night who told her, “You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.”  Luke 1:31 (NIV)  And all of a sudden God’s statement made sense.

This was the one who was the seed of woman.  This was the one that would crush the head of Satan.  This was the one who would finally defeat sin.  This was the one who would take away the sins of the world.  And still, 2000 years later, many still reject Him.  NOW THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!!!
