“My dear child, get up.” Jesus of Nazareth.”
Luke 8:54. The Message
Jesus was always moving during His ministry. Crossing the lake, climbing the mountain, walking to different towns and villages, walking along the seashore; always on the move.
But He got it honest, right? When Mary was informed that she was the chosen vessel to carry our Savior, she traveled to see her family, Elizabeth. Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem for the census while Mary was pregnant with Him. Later, Joseph had to move his new family to Egypt after He was born, to escape death. Then they traveled back after the threat was over.
Jesus inspired other people to travel, too. When the shepherds heard the Good News from the angels, they traveled into town to see for themselves what had happened, to see Him. When the wise men interpreted what the sign of the star meant, they got up and traveled to see Him.
When the eighth day after His birth arrived, He and His parents traveled the seven miles from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, so He could be circumcised at the temple.
“My dear child, get up.” This is what Jesus said to Jairus’s daughter, who was dead. We also as believers have been raised from the dead to new life. We follow a risen Savior who is on the move. Regardless of our age or health, I believe Jesus wants us to get up and move with Him. Maybe we are called to pray. Then we pray. Get up and talk to someone; get up and write a letter; get up and make a phone call. Get up!
