Devotion November 29

Sunday

November 29, 2020

As a child I grew up during the depression.  My parents provided the best they could for our family.  I would often pray and ask God for things and I would be disappointed not to get exactly what I wanted.  I have learned by reading the scriptures, specifically;

Matthew 6:8-9 “Therefore do not be like them for your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.”

Christmas is a good time to share with others who are in need.

One of my favorite Christmas memories as a child was when my Aunt Ethel and Uncle Mack invited my family to come to their house to spend Christmas.  They lived on a farm.  They didn’t have a lot of material things, but they were hard workers and wanted to share what they had with us.

There was a huge fireplace in their living room.  My Aunt Ethel brought in popcorn to the living room.  My Uncle Mack popped it in a corn popper in the fireplace.  My brother and I thought that was neat.  My Aunt hung our stockings on the mantle.  Later in the evening my Uncle went to the closet and brought out a brown paper bag with chocolate drops in it and apples wrapped in newspapers to preserve them.  These were our treat.

The next morning my brother and I found an orange and a candy cane in our stockings.  Also, I received a beautiful doll and my brother got a little red wagon. I am very thankful that my Aunt and Uncle made Christmas so special for us.

Mostly I am thankful to my heavenly Father for knowing my needs and providing what I need even before I ask.
